What does it mean to you to be awarded a Go Girl grant?
It means that someone believes in me, and that what I am doing is worthwhile. Having that kind of support motivates me to continue and see it through until my goals are accomplished. It's a great feeling to know that The Girlfriend Factor members are out their rooting for me.
Describe your motivation and inspiration for continuing your education and career goals at this stage in your life.
My motivation comes straight from the faces of the girls at Hacienda Valdez when we are in Art Group. To see art make a difference in their lives reinforces my belief that I can make a difference in other people's lives.
What advice would you offer other women who are considering going back to school to make a career change?
Get as much support as you can from people who are willing to help you see yourself through the journey of higher education to make a career change. Don't try to go it alone. It is much harder to do, and, more than likely, you will become overwhelmed and give up entirely. Also, stick with other people who have life goals and are working toward them. Try to avoid people that discourage you. Usually they just want to pull you down with them because misery loves company.
