What does it mean to you to be awarded a GoGirl grant?

What it means for me to be awarded a GoGirl grant is everything! I feel important that someone else other than a family member and myself actually cares if I succeed in my RN career endeavors.

Describe your motivation and inspiration for continuing your education and career goals at this stage in your life.

My motivation and inspiration for continuing my education and career goals in this stage of my life are my childrens' future as well as my own future. I want to be able to help my children go through college as well as pay everyday bills. I could not see myself doing that by working a minimum wage job. Also, I want to have a nice retirement plan for myself and my husband. The way companies are pulling the 401K option away from employees as well as stopping the "vested" option where a retired person can actually get a pension at retirement after giving 20 plus years of service made me realize I need to do this NOW!

What advice would you offer other women who are considering going back to school to make a career change?

Advice that I would offer to other women considering going back to school to make a career change would be to have full support of yourself as well as your family. You can easily succeed in any career endeavor if you have the support of your family unit. This makes it easier to study, be away from your family, and help ease guilty feelings of the women going back to school, if everyone knows the goal and the reason for it and how accomplishing it can benefit the whole family for many years to come.
