Go Education Go Girl! Campaign
For the second year, with great enthusiasm, the Girlfriend Factor will launch its Go Education, Go Girl! campaign (GEGG) to raise public awareness that education is the key to self-sufficiency and financial advancement for women, by proclaiming January to be National Go Education, Go Girl! Month. The goal of our campaign is to help women realize that they have the ability to take control of their own lives by returning to school to obtain a degree or receive occupational training. The Girlfriend Factor is opening the door to an ongoing public dialog on the importance of education in our lives, the profound impact it can have upon a woman's future, and the need to make education financially accessible to all women who chose to return to school to achieve their goals and dreams and better their lives.
And now it's time for you to help us make a difference in other women's lives! We need you to Add Your Voice. If you believe that education is the key to self-sufficiency, we ask that you add your voice to ours. On any page on our website, click on Add Your Voice, and let the world know that you believe in education; you believe that women have the ability to gain control of their lives by going back to school.
And once you've done that, pass it on! Send an e-mail to as many women as you know, in every region of our country, so that they can add their voice to ours. Think about it! How many voices does it take to establish that spark of hope in a woman who doesn't yet realize she can change her life. How many voices does it take to bring awareness to the infinite possibilities of a better life for someone who doesn't think she has the ability to make her dreams come true. Individually, we may not be able to make a huge difference in our society. But together, we can change the world.
And all we ask is that you Add Your Voice. Then pass it on!
2010?? Bring It On!
The Girlfriend Factor cannot help but move forward into the New Year with a renewed enthusiasm for life and an appreciation for all we have to be thankful for. As we continue to assist a growing number of women return to school to gain self-sufficiency, we have our eye on several exciting new developments which will allow us to increase our donor base and sphere of influence, while assisting women to build friendships and share experiences:
- GFF meets San Francisco – Yes, that’s right, San Francisco here we come! Angela Gillespie and Beth Weiss of San Francisco have found their calling to give back through the Girlfriend Factor and will be assisting us in launching our first GFF Chapter outside of the Coachella Valley. The opportunities and possibilities are endless and we are down right giddy over this new venture. Details to follow!
- GFF Girlfriend Circles – In these stressful economic times women have made it clear that what they really need and want is to be surrounded by a circle of friends to share with, and enjoy, the simple things in life. The Girlfriend Factor will be assisting to make this possible by establishing GFF Girlfriend Circles, small gatherings of women who can choose to go to the movies together, dine out or dine in, meet for coffee or play some bridge. Connecting women, Girlfriend by Girlfriend… that is what GFF is all about. As these Circles are developed and get-togethers planned we will keep you posted.
2009 was a Significant Year for GFF
- The demand for our Go Girl! Grants skyrocketed as the economy faltered. We started seeing an increase in married, versus single, applicants as many women face the reality of their husbands losing their jobs. Higher tuition costs are also playing a factor in an increase in financial support requests among our Go Girls.
- We officially became a matching partner in Pathways to Success, a matching scholarship program funded by the College Access Foundation of San Francisco. This program has allowed us to more than double the grants provided to a significant percentage of our recipients who are full time students at College of the Desert and Cal State San Bernardino.
- Our President and Co-Founder, Joan Busick, was the recipient of two significant awards honoring her role in the creation and building of The Girlfriend Factor. In April she received the Riverside County Commission for Women Woman of the Year Award as a woman who has made notable contributions that improve the lives of women and families in the county. In October she was presented the City of Palm Desert Athena Award for her unmatched commitment and contribution to the community.
- For our second year we celebrated the men who support GFF, those insightful guys who understand the growing financial clout women have in our society and who we affectionately call Cabana Boys. Seventeen contemporary gentlemen bravely stepped forward to support the mission of The Girlfriend Factor at our Caribbean-themed Evening at Club Cabana in October, and helped us raise over $20,000 for our Go Girl! Grants. Check out these fabulous guys on our GFF 2009 Cabana Boys page, drop down from Partners.
Spread the word!
Don't forget to e-mail your friends so they can check out our website and become Girlfriends, too!
